The Wendland sends a Ship!
CompassCollective activists support the rescue of refugees in the Mediterranean. Our sailing boat TROTAMAR III is used for three-week observation deployments, during which we document human rights violations, keep an eye out for maritime emergencies and assist in rescue missions by larger (rescue) ships. Trainings
Over the past few days, we’ve completed our final training near Lampedusa. During these exercises, we practiced the so-called “person overboard maneuver”— the scenario where a person falls overboard. In nautical terminology, this exercise is actually called the “man overboard maneuver,” but it’s important to us to be as inclusive as possible in our language.

Setting sail!
After a long period of preparation and final shipyard work, we were able to leave Licata, Sicily, today. This marks the end of our winter break, and we can finally set sail again to support people on their journey to Europe. Test drive with the new engine
Thanks to your support, we were able to install a new engine during this year’s shipyard. We weren’t sure whether we could really rely on the old engine in the future, so we replaced it. Now the new engine is finally in the boat and we got to try it out yesterday in beautiful sunshine.
